Anyway, the book itself was AMAZING! The storytelling was so vivid and beautiful. I haven't felt so sad over a book since I read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I wasn't even that sad over the main tragedy but I wrapped myself up in the few pages about Luc and his delirious love for Briony. Just a few pages, the end of which nearly caused me to weep at the front desk in front of customers.I found the book poetic and honest in its expression. I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it but it is realistic and poignant. The book strikes up both sympathy and empathy from the reader, depending on life experience.
I would truly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good wartime love story, unshared knowledge of the truth, and even nursing. Five out of five from me, and I think you'll agree with me that this book is worth a read.
